Help Bring Comfort and Joy to Hospitalized Kids

July 1 - 26, 2019

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital treats tens of thousands of Tampa Bay’s Children every year. Whether they arrive by ambulance, are recovering from open-heart surgery, or undergoing cancer treatment, they receive the finest medical care and emotional support available.

Making Spirits Bright

Health care settings are often stressful and frightening experiences for children and families. Providing recreation, developmental play, and play therapy gives kids strategies for coping and bring a momentary escape from their illness. However, these experiences are considered non-essential and are not covered by insurance providers. It is through generous community support, and events like Christmas in July, that St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital is able to provide these services that dramatically alter a child’s hospital experience.

Examples of activities and therapies that Christmas in July donations fund includes:

$100 will sponsor an activity night in the lobby of the Children’s Hospital. Movie or karaoke nights are examples of activities that provide patients temporary escape from their hospital rooms and provide much needed peer interaction.

$50 provides one hour of art & music therapy. This alternative therapy allows children to express feelings related to their hospitalization and relieve stress and anxiety.

$25 provides a child with a bedside activity kit that includes age appropriate toys. Patients are often in isolation due to contagious conditions or weakened immune systems.

Any donation matters! No matter how big or small your support allows our Child Life Specialists to be at the bedside playing, educating, and comforting the kids of St. Joe’s.
